1. Oct. 15 - Optimists in Action Day.
2. Oct. 17, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM - Rockville's Antique and Classic Car Show at the Rockville Civic Center.  Postponed to Oct. 24th.   CANCELED
3. Oct. 24 & 25 - Montgomery County's Annual Community Service Days.
4. Nov. 14 - 1st District Board Meeting at the Plaza Hotel, Hagerstown, MD.
5. Dec. 12 starting at 9:00 AM - We will participate with the Frederick Club in their "Shop with a Cop" event at the Wal-Mart at 1811 Monocacy Blvd., Frederick, MD 21701.  After the kids finish shopping we will help wrap the presents and then join them for lunch at the Outback Restaurant.  
6. Feb. 5 & 6 - 2nd District Board Meeting at the Holiday Inn, Waldorf, MD.
7. Feb. 10 - Deadline for entry to the Essay Contest.  This year's topic: "The Internet: Today's Evolution or Tomorrow's Menace?"  See Activities for more information.
8. March 9 starting at 7:00 PM - Meeting at Jennifer's and Peter's home to discuss the Oratorical Contest and other business.
9. March 27 starting at 11:30 AM - Luncheon for students in the Essay Contest at the Branded 72 Pit Barbecue Restaurant, 387 East Gude Drive, Rockville, MD 20850, Phone: 301-340-8596.  Guests are welcome.
10. April 1 - Deadline for entry to the Oratorical Contest.
11. April 8 starting at 7:00 PM - Oratorical Contest at the Thomas Farm community Center, Rockville, MD.
12. April 17 starting at 11:30 AM - Oratorical Contest for Zone 2 to be held at the Urbana Public Library, 9020 Amelung Street, Frederick, MD 21704, Phone:301-600-7000. 
13. May 1 & 2 - 3rd District Board Meeting at the Carousel Hotel, Ocean City, MD.  The District Oratorical Finals will be held May 1.
14. May 31 - Memorial Day Parade through Rockville Town Square.  The Club plans to sell bottled water and soft drinks.
15. July 3-6 - Optimist International Convention, Denver, CO.
16. Aug. 13-15 - 52nd Annual District Convention, Dover, DE.

Last Year's (08-09) News

The winner of the Club's Oratorical Contest was Mr. Jackson Douglas.  Congratulations to him!  He was awarded a $100 US Savings Bond and went on to win the Zone 2 Oratorical Contest sponsored by the Cumberland Valley Optimist Club on April 18th.  Again Congratulations to him!  Although Jackson did not win the District's Oratorical Contest which was held at the District's 3rd Quarterly Meeting at Ocean City on May 2, he did very well there.

The winner of the Club's 2009 Essay Contest was Ms. Yu Han.  Congratulations to her!  She was awarded a $100 US Savings Bond and her essay was sent to compete in the Maryland-South Delaware District Contest.  Her essay did not win there but it was a good effort!
